Clinical Supervision for Speech and Language Therapists

A joyful woman in a grey sweater is hugging a young girl wearing ear protectors, both smiling. In the background, there are festive decorations, including twinkling lights and a Christmas tree.

Helping others has always felt like a natural part of who I am. Perhaps it is something we have in common, and one of the reasons you became a therapist too?

As a teenager, my friends often told me how easy I was to talk to. I was the person they could share anything with, and I loved being there for them.

In my college years, my curiosity lead me to a counselling skills courses. I quickly learnt one of the best ways to support someone isn’t by offering advice (which I was very good at!) but by listening to them with curiosity and without judgement.

Through life experiences including becoming a parent and attending personal therapy, I have learnt how to manage feelings of overwhelm and anxiety, how to recognise people-pleasing and perfectionist behaviours and navigate challenges that life can bring. My experiences have positively shaped and strengthened who I am as a person and the therapist I am today.

As a supervisor, I bring empathy and compassion to all of my sessions. I want to highlight and celebrate your successes, notice when things are going well and support you during challenging and difficult moments along the way.

  • A calm, relaxed and friendly space where you can speak openly and honestly.
  • Time to pause and reflect upon your current practices. There is space to bring topics of your choosing and an invitation to discuss other topics too.
  • Discussions around evidence-based practice; what does this mean and how can we ensure our practice is evidence based?
  • Clear expectations of working together. What does successful supervision look like? How do you like to work? How will we navigate if things go wrong? How can I best support you?
  • 17 years of my experience working with a range of children and young people with speech, language and communication differences. Whilst I specialise in stammering, I have supported lots of other children in different settings too (I have worked in schools my whole career).
  • Online sessions or face to face sessions in Southwater and the surrounding areas.
  • A pre-session questionnaire where you can share what you are looking for and how I can best support you.
  • An invitation to consider future goals or aims, discussions around continuing professional development (CPD) and meeting HCPC standards.
  • A follow up email from me afterwards with any resources, reminders or links we discuss.
  • An invitation to a post-session feedback form, to help me make future sessions as helpful to you as possible.
